Plot

In the wake of college graduation, two best friends, Ben and Larry, find themselves in a hazy, drunken argument over whose father would emerge victorious in a brawl. Little do they know, their seemingly innocent debate is overheard by one of their fathers, a trailer park inhabitant with a bruised ego and a point to prove. As the situation spirals out of control, jobs are lost, relationships crumble, and futures hang in the balance, all while middle-aged men trade blows in a desperate attempt to validate their worth. Father of the Year is a poignant coming-of-age tale that charts the journey of these two recent graduates as they spend their final weeks at home before the bright lights of New York City beckon. During this time, the veil of childhood innocence lifts as they grapple with the harsh realities and complexities of their fathers' lives. Amidst the chaos, they are forced to confront who their fathers truly are, viewing them through the lens of newfound adulthood. This tumultuous tale is a cocktail of humor, drama, and life lessons, complete with knockouts and unexpected consequences, serving as a stark reminder that some debates are better left in the realm of theoretical banter. As they stand at the precipice of adulthood, Ben and Larry must navigate the wreckage of their fathers' duel, all while learning to see the world, and their parents, with grown-up eyes.
