Fantail (2013)

Tania, a young woman who believes herself to be Maori, navigates the nocturnal life as a petrol station worker. Her mundane existence is fueled by a single dream - to save enough money to take her younger brother, Piwakawaka, affectionately known as Pi, to Surfers Paradise in search of their elusive father. Their plan takes an unexpected turn when Pi leaves to pick kiwifruit, leaving Tania alone in her quest. At the petrol station, Tania finds herself juggling tasks - from acquiring security training to ensuring that her boss, Rog, keeps his job. Amidst the fuel fumes and late-night customers, Tania tries to rescue Pi from the influence of his newfound friends and his misguided belief that he can fly. The arrival of Dean, the regional manager, adds another layer of complexity to Tania's life. While Dean's official mission is to supervise Rog, he finds himself increasingly captivated by Tania. However, when Dean starts probing into Tania's cultural background and her family's history, she begins to piece together the obscured truths of her past.
