Evil Under the Sun (1982)

In the sun-drenched splendor of a Mediterranean island, the world's most astute detective, Hercule Poirot (Sir Peter Ustinov), finds himself embroiled in a perplexing mystery that blends deceit, lust, and murder. Commissioned by an insurance company to explore the curious case of a deceased woman on a moor and a counterfeit diamond, Poirot's investigation leads him to the enigmatic Arlena Marshall (Dame Diana Rigg). A woman of radiant beauty and undeniable allure, Arlena has recently wed and is enjoying her honeymoon at a secluded island hotel, the very epicenter of affluence and simmering tensions. The diamond in question, a glittering, precious stone as beguiling as it is fake, was purchased for Arlena by the affluent Sir Horace Blatt (Colin Blakely). As Poirot navigates the intricate twists and turns of this mystery, he soon finds himself joining the holiday resort's cosmopolitan residents, all of whom seem to harbor a growing resentment towards Arlena. Her refusal to perform in a stage show, her interference with the publication of a book, and her brazen affair with fellow guest, Patrick Redfern (Nicholas Clay), in full view of his demure wife, only serve to fan the flames of animosity. Under the scorching sun, the tension reaches a boiling point when Arlena is discovered lifeless, a victim of murder most foul. In a place where everyone seemingly had a motive to wish Arlena harm yet all possess perfect alibis, Poirot must unravel the tangled web of lies and deceit to unmask the killer.
