Emma's life, once as bland as her decaffeinated coffee and scrambled egg whites, takes a dramatic turn when she finally grows tired of her humdrum existence with her husband, Ray. Seeking more than the spice of a hot sauce bottle, she runs away from home, suitcase in hand, and ends up on the doorstep of her estranged son, Elliot's restaurant. Thrust into an odd-couple living arrangement as mother and son, they grapple with their rusty relationship, marred by years of unspoken tensions. Elliot is gay, and Emma is old-fashioned - a concoction as complex as some of the dishes in Elliot's restaurant.
