Earth Angel (1991)

In the carefree era of 1962, Angela is a vibrant teenager who lives life with reckless abandon, focusing on parties and the present, with her future nowhere in sight. Her equally reckless boyfriend, Duke, echoes her lack of foresight. However, Angela's school counselor sees potential in her and urges a change in her outlook, starting with her academics. He assigns the diligent Wayne as her tutor, and as Angela spends time with him, unexpected feelings bloom. She invites Wayne to the prom, but Duke, fueled by jealousy, insists on taking her, leading to a tragic accident that Duke escapes unscathed, but Angela doesn't. Suddenly, Angela finds herself in purgatory, where she learns from her now-deceased counselor that she hasn't done enough good to earn her place in heaven. Her new mission: to return to Earth and help someone in need. As she materializes back on Earth, she finds herself visible only to Cindy, a girl caught in a similar love triangle. Cindy is smitten with a reckless guy akin to Duke, oblivious to the affection of the shy Peter. Whilst aiding Cindy in her romantic pursuits, Angela realizes that her tutor and prom date, Wayne, is leading a solitary, miserable life. She hatches a plan to unite Wayne with her best friend, Judith, who also happens to be Cindy's mother. However, Duke, as stubborn in death as he was in life, has already set his sights on Judith. Angela must navigate this complex web of love and longing, as she strives to earn her place in heaven. She learns that her mission is not just about helping others, but also about redemption and self-discovery.
