Plot

In the haunting tale of "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," Sally, a neurotic housewife, and her business-savvy husband Alex uproot their lives to settle into a grand, eerie Victorian mansion that once belonged to Sally's grandmother. As Sally dives into refurbishing the antiquated homestead with the assistance of an overbearing interior designer, she stumbles upon a locked room that seems to hold more than just family history. Defying the stern warnings of the seasoned handyman Mr. Harris, Sally secures the key to the room. Her curiosity leads her to unseal a long-forgotten fireplace and ash pit, concealed within her father's old study. Ignoring Mr. Harris's adamant refusal to meddle with the sealed fireplace, Sally takes matters into her own hands, using his wrench to pry open the ash pit's cover. From this point, Sally's life takes a chilling turn. She starts seeing diminutive creatures lurking in the shadows, their existence only visible to her. Her pleas for belief fall on deaf ears as Alex dismisses her fears as neurotic imaginings, and her friend Joan questions Sally's mental stability. Sally's world spirals further into terror when a deadly accident claims the life of the decorator, a mishap she believes the creatures orchestrated. Is Sally's mind playing tricks on her, influenced by Mr. Harris's ominous words? Or has she unwittingly unleashed a malevolent presence, a legacy left behind by her father, that lurks in the darkness of their new home? "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" weaves this sinewy tale of suspense, leaving viewers questioning the fine line between reality and paranoia.
