Plot

As the new year dawns in the vibrant city of San Francisco, a Chinese immigrant widow, Mrs. Tan, finds herself confronting a cocktail of emotions. At 62, she yearns to journey back to her ancestral homeland of China, to honor her forebears in their eternal rest. A shadow of unease looms over her, following a prediction by a fortune teller that this year might be her last. Meanwhile, her daughter Geraldine's marital status - single at a mature age - continues to be a thorn in her side. Geraldine, while involved in a romantic relationship, wrestles with the idea of matrimony. Her beau resides in Los Angeles, a prospect that threatens to leave her aging mother alone in her twilight years, something Geraldine cannot bear. Amidst this domestic tumult, Mrs. Tan's jovial brother-in-law steps in, attempting to sprinkle some cheer and resolve the situation. The movie gracefully explores the intersection of cultural expectations and personal desires. Can Mrs. Tan find a path that allows her to uphold her traditional values without smothering Geraldine's independence? Will a resolution surface that satisfies the hopes of both mother and daughter, while preserving the delicate bond they share? The narrative delicately unfolds this intricate family drama, promising a heartwarming journey of love, culture, and compromise.
