In the hushed tranquility of a graveyard, young and mute Cassandra seeks solace from her turbulent life. She finds an unexpected sanctuary among the tombstones, under the watchful eye of Jorge, the cemetery's caretaker. An illegal immigrant, Jorge nurtures an unyielding commitment to restore a vintage '60 Cadillac hearse, a project that offers him a semblance of purpose amidst uncertainty. Into this world of quiet resilience rolls in Shore, a brilliant yet homeless young man, radiating charm from behind the wheel of his battered VW bus. After a close call with Cassandra, he becomes irresistibly drawn to the silent girl haunting the cemetery grounds. An attempt to forge a connection ensues, but fate has other plans, and Cassandra mysteriously disappears. Teaming up, Jorge and Shore embark on a daring mission, commandeering the restored hearse in a high-stakes race against time to find Cassandra before her menacing step-father does. The road curves relentlessly towards Yermo, a sleepy roadside town, where they encounter Lola, a spirited transvestite waitress brimming with compassion and grit.
