Plot

From the heart of revolutionary Havana to the corridors of power in Florida and New York, "Dear Fidel: Marita's Story" (2001) is a whirlwind tale of love, betrayal, and espionage. Marita Lorenz, a German sea captain's daughter, finds herself the lover of the iconic Fidel Castro shortly after the Cuban revolution of 1959. Her life takes a harrowing turn when she's clandestinely drugged, forced into a perilous abortion while six months pregnant with Castro's child. With her life irrevocably marked by this tragedy, Marita is drawn into the shadowy world of the CIA and Mafia, who scheme to use her as a pawn to assassinate Castro. However, Marita's resilience shines through as she defies the plot, discarding the deadly poison just before meeting Castro again. Her journey doesn't end there; Marita then becomes embroiled in the world of espionage in Florida, working for the CIA while sharing a life with an ex-dictator of Venezuela, leading to the birth of a daughter. Her life takes another twist when she marries an FBI agent and births a son, embarking on new spy missions on UN diplomats from a New York apartment. The thrilling roller-coaster of Marita's life seemingly comes to halt when she testifies in the 1977 Kennedy Assassination Inquiry, revealing her ties to both Frank Sturgis and Lee Harvey Oswald. Throughout the film, Marita's tumultuous journey from Castro's lover to a central figure in the world of international espionage is masterfully unveiled, leaving the audience captivated by the complexities of her extraordinary life.
