Plot

In the comedic whirlwind of "Clockwise" (1986), we follow Brian Stimpson (John Cleese), the obsessively punctual headmaster of an English comprehensive school. Known for his high standards for himself, staff, and pupils, his meticulous plans are thrown into chaos when he boards the wrong train on his way to a prestigious Headmasters' Conference. With his reputation on the line, Stimpson commandeers the car of a sixth-form student, Laura (Sharon Maiden), in a desperate bid to make it to the conference on time. Their unlikely journey sees them pursued by an increasingly bewildered Gwenda (Alison Steadman), Stimpson's wife. Gwenda, on her own jaunt with three elderly ladies, is left questioning her husband's antics upon spotting him with a young girl and takes up a suspicious chase. The journey becomes more tumultuous as Stimpson crosses paths with an old flame, Pat (Dame Penelope Wilton), who is reluctantly roped into his frantic quest. However, when their commandeered vehicle meets an untimely end, Stimpson and Laura resort to drastic measures, leading to a humorous encounter with a salesman and his ill-fated vehicle. The climax of Stimpson's chaotic journey sees him arrive at the conference, disheveled and out of breath, with an entourage of his wife, her elderly charges, and the Police hot on his trail. With the police ready to arrest him for car theft, Stimpson's desperate quest for punctuality unfolds in a hilarious series of unfortunate events. "Clockwise" is a delightful romp that keeps viewers guessing, laughing, and gasping at each unexpected turn.
