Cartel Land (2015)

This documentary investigates multiple angles to explore exactly how complex the issue of the drug trade along the Mexican and United States border really is. Cartel representatives rule small villages essentially unhindered by the law — and cartel members and allies have infiltrated every level of the police to a degree that many departments are essentially owned by the drug dealers. Amidst this chaos, an educated physician in the rural county of Michoacan stands up to the cartel and puts his life at risk at the same time. There's no easy solution for how to end the violence, but there are certainly lessons to be learned.
