Border Caballero (1936)

In the heart of the Wild West, Tim Ross, a former Justice Department agent turned sharpshooter, showcases his unparalleled marksmanship within the vibrant spectacle of Doc Shaw's traveling medicine show. His life takes an unexpected turn when he crosses paths with an old comrade, Tex Weaver, who is embroiled in a covert operation to dismantle a notorious gang of bank robbers. Their reunion however, is tragically short-lived as a planned exhibition of Ross's sharpshooting prowess ends with Tex Weaver dead in the dust. As Ross prepares to shoot a coin from Weaver's hand, a sinister shot rings out from the crowd, killing his friend. All fingers point towards Ross as the killer, except for the fiery Goldie Harris, Weaver's lover and a saloon girl with a discerning eye. She knows Ross's bullet found its marked coin, not his friend. Haunted by vengeance and determined to unmask the true murderer, Ross reenlists in the federal service. Armed with a daring disguise as a Mexican caballero, complete with a flamboyant sombrero and a thick accent, he ventures into the heart of Clearwater. Here, he reunites with the smoldering Goldie, who sees past his disguise and pledges her loyalty to his cause. As Ross delves deeper into the murky underworld, he realizes that the puppet master behind the bank heists is none other than the bank examiner Wiley Taggart, who operates under the guise of the unsuspecting saloon owner, Buff Brayden. With this revelation, Ross devises a cunning trap, luring the villainous duo with the promise of a lucrative bank deposit in Bordertown. In a thrilling climax, Ross confronts his enemies, but not before Goldie takes a bullet, proving her loyalty in the most dramatic fashion.
