Plot

In the coastal town of Newcastle, Australia, Sean Okden, a charismatic natural-born tap dancer, trades his dancing shoes for the gruff world of a steel mill. As the mill's fortunes decline, Sean seizes an opportunity to showcase his talent in a Sydney show. However, a clash with the lead dancer soon sees him dismissed, sending him back home to the painful discovery of his girlfriend in the arms of his brother, Mitchell. Battered but unbeaten, Sean resolves to create his own tap-dance troupe, the 'Bootmen', donning hardhats and tapping to a different beat. Inspired by the rhythm of the steel mill, Sean pioneers a unique style, welding metal to their shoes and transforming industrial steel into a dance floor. The metallic acoustics of their performance resonate well with a local rock group, bringing an original edge to their act. But staging their debut show is a costly affair. With no financial aid from his father and the steel mill merely offering its premises for free, Sean and his troupe resort to stealing a cheerleaders' podium during a televised sports match to garner needed media attention. Amidst these challenges, Sean finds himself entangled in his brother's troubles, culminating in a tragic incident that shakes the 'Bootmen' to their core. Even as the steel mill announces its closure, Sean refuses to give up, turning their performances into a benefit for the laid-off workers. Through grit, passion, and the clanging rhythm of steel, Sean must navigate personal and professional upheavals, striving to make the 'Bootmen' a symbol of hope, resilience, and unique talent.
