Plot

In the tumultuous landscape of Belfast, 1978, nestled amidst the throes of a religious war, a tale of unexpected tenderness unfolds. Two young brothers, Malachy and Jamesy, find their world brightened by a peculiar gift from their usually elusive father, Jim. Fresh from a stint on a farm, Jim presents his sons with two baby chicks, which they lovingly christen Boogaloo and Graham. The brothers, with an innocence that belies their troubled environment, devote themselves to nurturing their feathered companions. In the process, they discover a newfound respect for life and begin envisioning a future where they run a chicken farm, even declaring vegetarianism in a show of solidarity with their charges. The chicks, in turn, offer more than just companionship; they become anchors of hope and symbols of resilience in the boys' uncertain lives. However, this idyllic bubble is threatened when their parents drop a bombshell that sends shockwaves through their newfound contentment. The family is on the brink of significant changes that may not bode well for Boogaloo and Graham's continued cohabitation. A family struggle ensues as they grapple with these diverging realities, with the fate of Boogaloo and Graham hanging in the balance. Human intervention might be the only chance for the boys to protect their unlikely companions, as they navigate the complexities of growing up amidst chaos.
