Plot

In the heart of a free-spirited hippie commune, a world ruled by the peaceful principles of the bonobo monkey, lives Lily, a young woman who has turned her back on law school and the expectations of her conventional life. She seeks solace in the 'make love not war' philosophy of the commune's eccentric leader, Anita, a woman who firmly believes in the power of harmony and community. But beneath the surface of this idyllic existence, a storm is brewing. Lily's mother, Judith, a stern widow with conservative values, is appalled by her daughter's radical choice to abandon her education and the world as she knows it. Confusion and conflict ensue, causing a rift that seems impossible to repair. However, the unexpected happens. Anita, the enigmatic group leader, claims that she can mend the mother-daughter divide. She invites Judith, a woman more at home in a law court than a commune, to immerse herself in their way of life for a day, to submit to the bonobo principles. But with Judith and Lily both stubbornly set on their paths, Anita's unconventional methods face the ultimate test. "Bonobo" is a tale of familial tension, personal discovery and the quest for understanding, set against the vibrant backdrop of a commune that dances to the rhythm of a different drum. Will this unconventional sanctuary hold the key to reconciling mother and daughter, or will it only widen the chasm between them? This movie invites you to step into a world where love rules and discover what really matters in life.
