Between Men (1935)

In the throes of a fierce quarrel, blacksmith John Wellington is driven to the brink, his fury culminating in the death of two men. This act of violence forces him to abandon his young son, John Jr., and flee from Virginia. The boy is taken under the wing of Sir George Thorne, the town's wealthiest resident, whose honor John Sr. had been defending during the fatal dispute. As the years pass, John Jr., now known simply as Johnny, embarks on a quest to New Mexico. His mission is to find the rebellious daughter of Sir George, who dared to marry a man named Winters against her father's wishes. Tragedy has befallen the runaway daughter, leaving behind her own progeny, Gail, under the care of Winters, now known as Gentry, and a shadowy figure named Rand. Rand, the head of a notorious outlaw gang, maintains a surprising yet protective relationship with the Gentrys. Unbeknownst to Johnny, Rand is his long-lost father, living under an assumed identity, while Gale is the grand-daughter of Sir George - the very girl he has been searching for. A chilling confrontation looms as Trent and his gang of outlaws encircle the cabin where Johnny, his rediscovered father, and Gail have sought refuge. The layers of deception peel away, revealing the tangled threads of fate that link these disparate lives. As the walls close in, Johnny and Rand are left to grapple with their shared past, the looming threat, and the future of the young woman who binds them together.
