Plot

In the mystic heart of Greenwich Village, Gillian Holroyd (Kim Novak) leads an enchanting existence as a contemporary witch, part of an illustrious lineage of sorcerers including her zany Aunt Queenie (Elsa Lanchester) and mischievous brother Nicky (Jack Lemmon). When the charismatic publisher, Shep Henderson (James Stewart), moves into the apartment overhead, Gillian finds herself irresistibly drawn to him, her interest piqued by an unexpected connection - Shep is on the brink of marrying her longtime college adversary, Merle Kittridge (Janice Rule). In a twist of fate, Gillian employs her feline familiar, Pyewacket, to weave a potent love spell, ensnaring the unsuspecting Shep. The charm takes immediate effect, causing Shep to break off his forthcoming nuptials with Merle in favor of the bewitching Gillian. Further deepening the intrigue, Gillian manipulates circumstances to ensure that quirky author Sidney Redlitch (Ernie Kovacs) will court Shep's publishing prowess with his upcoming book, a riveting expose on New York's witching community. However, as Gillian's brother Nicky forms an unforeseen alliance with Sidney, she fears that Shep might uncover her true witchy essence and the magical ruse she's spun. To complicate matters, Gillian finds herself genuinely falling for Shep. A perilous predicament for a witch, for true love threatens to strip her of her powers. But as the bewitching tale unfolds, Aunt Queenie steps in, wielding the most potent magic of all - love, in an audacious attempt to reunite the star-crossed lovers. Caught in a whirlwind of passion, power, and secrets, Gillian must decide what she truly desires, testing the limits of her magic and her heart.
