Plot

As the leaves turn golden in the bustling heart of New York City, we meet Will Keane, a forty-eight-year-old charismatic restaurateur, gracing the cover of New York magazine. Renowned for his string of romantic conquests, Will's life is steeped in fleeting pleasures and the calculated rejection of enduring love. A chance encounter introduces him to the enchantingly artistic Charlotte Fielding, a delicate beauty of twenty-two, living under the tender care of her grandmother Dolly, an old friend of Will's. Their connection is palpable yet concealed, their mutual attraction simmering beneath the veneer of their initial interactions. Their first date is a dance of honesty and intrigue, setting the stage for an unconventional romance. Will, true to his womanizing reputation, insists on the transitory nature of their liaison. But Charlotte, carrying a secret heavier than her years, reveals her terminal heart condition, turning their agreement on its head. Charlotte's revelation forces Will to confront his approach to love and relationships. His closest friend, John, urges him to treat Charlotte with the care she deserves if he chooses to continue seeing her. This May-December affair evolves differently than either could have anticipated. For Charlotte, it might mean trading her resigned acceptance of fate for a fierce battle for survival. For Will, his time with Charlotte is further complicated by an unexpected encounter with a young woman from his past, Lisa Tyler. When Will succumbs to his habitual infidelity, Charlotte sends him away, wounded and confounded by the loss of the one woman who has managed to slip past his emotional defenses. Now, he must grapple with his own transformation, from a man who has always shunned commitment to one desperate to earn Charlotte's forgiveness. As autumn embraces New York, can Will convince Charlotte to give him a second chance? And can he support her through her life-threatening illness while reshaping his reckless ways? The city watches as their story unfolds, a testament to the transformative power of love against a backdrop of falling leaves and fading life.
