Arike (2012)

Unraveling the delicate fabric of love, friendship, and longing, "Arike" centers on the intertwined lives of Shantanu, a devoted linguistics scholar, and his two companions, the emotionally scarred Anuradha and the whimsically romantic Kalpana. Shantanu finds himself ensnared in a tender yet complicated love triangle, as Anuradha, who's nursing her own heartache from a past betrayal, attempts to unite him with Kalpana, a woman who cherishes the euphoria of being in love but is reluctant to reciprocate Shantanu's affection. In the midst of their romantic tumult, Kalpana's orthodox parents vehemently oppose her union with Shantanu, opting instead to match her with a suitor from their own Brahmin community, Sanjay. A meticulously planned encounter orchestrated by Kalpana's aunt ultimately leads to an unforeseen accident, leaving Kalpana with physical scars that mirror her emotional turmoil. In the aftermath, Kalpana withdraws from Shantanu, surrendering to her parents' wish for her to marry Sanjay. As Anuradha consoles a heartbroken Shantanu, he comes to the startling realization of Kalpana's lack of genuine love for him. The poignant twist of fate is that his true love had been within his grasp the entire time, unnoticed and unrequited.
