In the heart-wrenching whirlwind of life and loss, Alice Hyatt, a 35-year-old housewife turned reluctant wanderer, finds her world abruptly shattered by the sudden death of her husband Donald in a tragic work-related accident. The path before Alice takes an unexpected detour when they find themselves in Tucson, Arizona, where she grudgingly accepts a waitressing job at Mel and Ruby's Diner. Surrounded by a motley crew of characters, including gruff owner Mel, the sharp-tongued Flo, and the timid Vera, Alice navigates the chaos of her new environment. Yet, amidst the clatter of dishes and the sizzle of the grill, Alice slips back into old patterns: seeking fulfillment and validation from men, specifically the youthful Ben and the humble farmer, David.
