Liam Heap, an intellectually gifted teenager, lives in a world where his only companion is his devoted single mother, Claire Heap. Home-schooled throughout his life, Liam's social interactions are limited to his mother, who guards him meticulously with an ambitious vision: to see him become the next Stephen Hawking, a prodigy, destined for Cambridge's esteemed Astronomy program. However, Liam's aspirations diverge from the path his mother has laid out. Taking a daring leap, Liam persuades Claire to let him experience public high school, a place she dismisses as a breeding ground for underachievers, a sentiment born from her own agonizing past experiences. The agreement is temporary until he successfully clears his high school equivalency test in four months, demonstrating his brilliance. Yet, Liam's motivation for this shift is not academic but rather driven by a desire to know Anastasia, his would-be classmate, a one-legged girl who has captured his heart. Navigating this unfamiliar territory, Liam's journey towards socialization is influenced by an agreement with the school principal, Mr. Kelly, a condition for his admission. It's further complicated by Anastasia's own social dynamics and the ever-watchful Claire's intrusive involvement in his school life and beyond.
