In the turbulent world of 1945, a brash, woman-chasing merchant marine, the ringleader of a ragtag band of eccentric misfits and alcohol-fueled sailors, narrowly escapes the jaws of death during a vicious Japanese torpedo attack. His dance with mortality only fuels his reckless behavior further. Back on terra firma in San Francisco, he finds himself at odds with a refined, icy librarian. Despite their glaring differences, he lingers, drawn magnetically to her vivacious, flirtatious roommate. But despite the constant friction, the seafaring rogue and the sophisticated librarian find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other, their incessant bickering escalating until it teeters on the precipice of physical confrontation. In the aftermath of their most heated, nearly violent quarrel, they succumb to the magnetic pull between them, eloping to Reno in a whirlwind of passion for a hasty, improbable union. However, the honeymoon period is fleeting. Their contrasting worldviews and principles soon lead to a clash of titanic proportions. Their unconventional relationship appears destined for disaster, teetering on the edge of a potentially heartrending calamity.
