A Monster Calls (2016)

Young Conor O'Malley's mother is dying of cancer. Instead of finding the comfort he needs from his family, he's terrorized by his strict grandmother and abandoned by his father. The only one willing to listen to Conor is a monstrous tree that comes to life at night and tells Conor mysterious but true stories. In return, the tree demands that Conor share his own true story, but can Conor overcome his childhood trauma and give the monster what it wants?
