A Long Way Off (2014)

In the heart of this contemporary retelling of the timeless tale of the Prodigal Son, Jacob, a young man weary of the monotonous life on his family's farm and chafing under the rules of his father, Mr. Abraham, yearns for a taste of independence. In a bold move, he demands an early inheritance from his father, who, to Jacob's surprise, agrees. Armed with a newfound wealth, Jacob abandons the humble comfort of his home for the glimmering allure of the metropolis. Jake, as he now prefers to be called, dives headfirst into the city's vibrant pulse, determined to make his mark by disregarding his father's conservative business ethics and religious values. He begins to lead a life of flamboyant excess, attracting all the wrong elements of the high society. His indulgences include the seductive Laura, a woman with a wealthy and often dangerously close boyfriend, Frank. In spite of his recklessness, Jake manages to multiply his fortune, his success seemingly boundless. However, the city's glittering façade soon crumbles as Jake's world collapses around him. His lavish lifestyle and imprudent business risks lead to his downfall, leaving him penniless and destitute, eating from dumpsters and residing in a squalid pigpen. At rock bottom, the reality of his choices comes crashing down on him. A humbled and broken Jake yearns for home, prepared to stoop to any level to regain his father's favor. With a newfound appreciation for his father's wisdom, he returns to the farm, expecting nothing more than an entry-level position. He is met with yet another surprise from his father, who rushes to greet him. Is it to embrace him or to condemn him? Only time will tell in this poignant tale of redemption and reconciliation.
