Plot

In the shadowy underbelly of 1960's New York, Walter Stackhouse, a successful architect with a budding interest in crime fiction, finds himself ensnared in a web of deceit, guilt, and betrayal. A fascinatingly eerie article about an unresolved murder case involving Helen Kimmel, a woman brutally slain by her husband, captures Walter's imagination, intertwining his life with the enigmatic Kimmel in unexpected ways. Despite his opulent lifestyle, Walter is ensnared in a joyless marriage to the stunning but deeply troubled Clara. His yearning for freedom fuels his fascination with Kimmel's chilling tale, unknowingly setting him on a treacherous path that mirrors the plot of his own evolving crime novel. As Walter immerses himself in the labyrinth of Kimmel's story, his bond with Clara frays, further muddling his already bewildered mind with morose contemplations. However, when Clara meets an untimely demise under dubious circumstances, Walter's world teeters on the brink of collapse. His string of deceptive stories and guilty conscience serve as a damning testament, painting him as a prime suspect in the eyes of an unforgiving law enforcement. As Walter's reality becomes perilously entangled with Kimmel's narrative, a relentless detective grows increasingly certain that he has stumbled upon a copycat killer. Simultaneously, the unsolved mysteries and unsettling parallels between Clara's death and Helen Kimmel's murder spiral out of control. The lines blur between truth and fiction, between innocence and guilt, and between a liar and a murderer. Walter's descent into this abyss of uncertainty propels him closer to the elusive truth, raising a haunting question: Who can distinguish a fabricator from a killer when the evidence is cloaked in shadows and lies?
