Plot

In the heart of North Baltimore, nestled on Harford Road, Sylvia Stickles, a cantankerous, sexually suppressed middle-aged woman, leads a life far from the simmering undercurrent of desire that pervades the air around her. Sylvia is the stern pillar of her family, juggling responsibilities at the Pinewood Park and Pay convenience store, and acting as the self-appointed moral compass for her scandalously exhibitionist daughter, Caprice, a go-go dancer known as Ursula Udders, whose voluptuous proportions and naked antics have earned her house arrest. Beside Sylvia, her doting husband Vaughn exists in a state of unfulfilled longing, his marital desires persistently thwarted by his wife's cold indifference. Sylvia's world, a fortress of prudishness, is further fortified by her mother, Big Ethel, and their group of "neuters," dedicated to the preservation of decency amidst the escalating lust on Harford Road. However, a freak accident involving a lawnmower and a passing pick-up truck disrupts Sylvia's rigid world, leaving her with a concussion that awakens a dormant volcano of lust within her. Enter Ray-Ray Perkins, a seductive tow-truck driver with a unique gift for sexual healing. Ray-Ray serves as the catalyst, igniting Sylvia's suppressed desires and transforming her from a staunch prude to a passionate participant in the throes of pleasure. In this John Water's film, Sylvia’s journey is both shocking and fascinating, as she evolves into the twelfth apostle of sex under Ray-Ray's tutelage, embarking on an exhilarating expedition of self-discovery, pleasure, and orgasm. The tale of 'A Dirty Shame' thus unravels, promising a comical, provocative exploration of the human sexual psyche and the transformative power of desire.
