5th of July (2019)

On a pivotal 4th of July, Orlando Leal, an ambitious young French professor of African descent, embarks on an emotionally charged journey to the tranquil mountains. His mission: fulfilling his ailing father's last wish - scattering his ashes over the serene surface of Mosquito Lake. Reluctantly, Orlando carries out the task, but when he angrily curses his father at the lake, he unwittingly tempts the wrath of the cosmos. Suddenly, his world spirals into chaos. He falls prey to Dakota and Cowboy, a pair of cunning thieves who strip him of his wallet and keys. Then, he crosses paths with a group of neo-hippies from Burning Man who drug him, leading to his entrapment in a cycle of enforced farm labor. Undeterred, on the 5th of July, Orlando stages a daring escape, commandeering the farm boss's motorcycle. However, his relief is short-lived when he returns home to find it ransacked, all his possessions stolen by the same remorseless thieves. Amidst the turmoil, the only beacon of hope is Karen, the newfound love of his life, flying in from Washington D.C. But if Orlando isn't there to greet her, he risks losing his one shot at love. Can Orlando retrieve his stolen life, break the curse he unwittingly invoked, and return the pilfered motorcycle in time to secure a future with Karen? This tale of resilience and redemption keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, rooting for Orlando's triumph against the odds.
