Plot
This is a sequel to 2001: A Space Odyssey that takes place in 2010. It is based on the novel by Arthur C. Clarke. The ship Discovery with the artificial intelligence H.A.L. 9000 computer went missing, and the U.S. is working with the Soviet Union to send an expedition to Jupiter to find out what occurred. The mission has many challenges including dealing with the tensions of the cold war and a huge, black monolith in Jupiter’s orbit. Among the mysteries it must solve is to find the H.A.L. and reactivate it to learn what happened and what the commander’s last transmission meant.
